All involved in Damascus blasts arrested, preliminary investigation links cell to ISIS

Damascus, July 10 (SANA)Syrian security forces have arrested all members of the cell involved in the July 7bombings in Damascus, with preliminary investigations indicating the cell was affiliated with the (ISIS) terrorist group, Brig. Gen.Ahmad al-Dalati, commander of Internal Security in the Damascus countryside, said on Thursday.

Speaking to Syria’s Al-Ikhbariya TV, al-Dalati said security forces, working with the General Intelligence Service, launched an investigation immediately after the terrorist bombings. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the area, identified one suspect, and tracked him to the remainingmembers of the cell.

He said the arrests followed a coordinated security operation overseen by theInternal Security leadershipand the General Intelligence Service’s Counterterrorism Directorate. Simultaneous raids were carried out in several areas of Damascus and its countryside, including al-Husseiniyah and Esh al-Warwar, resulting in the arrest of all individuals involved in the bombings.

Al-Dalati said the Interior Ministry and the General Intelligence Service remain on high alert to prevent attacks targeting civilians and to safeguard security and stability.

Two explosions struck near theMinistry of Tourismin Damascus on July 7, killing one person and injuring 36 others. TheInterior Ministrysaid at the time that Internal Security forces had discovered two improvised explosive devices during field operations and that both detonated while specialized teams were preparing to defuse them.
