Presidente Mulino recorre operaciones de Chiquita, reactivando las exportaciones de banano desde Bocas del Toro

After 10 months of the historic management of the National Government to complete the rescue of the banana activity in Bocas del Toro, and the signing of an agreement to restart the operations of the Chiquita company, this industry is preparing to export about 11 million boxes of the product for the coming months and approximately 15 million boxes for the following year.
The announcement was made during a tour of Finca 12 by the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, together with the CEO of Chiquita, Carlos López Flores, and the Ministers Julio Moltó, of Commerce and Industries; and Roberto Linares, from Agricultural Development. During the visit, the productive activity of this 200-hectare plantation, one of the 20 areas currently being worked on, was confirmed.
"I see with immense satisfaction that we are opening the doors to the export of our banana, which is recognized worldwide. This is the result of the work of thousands of people and investments made in this fertile soil that produces high-quality food," said Mulino upon receiving the report, which also details the existence of 5 thousand hectares in production, which has an impact, depending on the fluctuation of production, on 6 thousand direct jobs for Bocatoreños.
Mulino highlighted the positive future for the province by reviving this industry; However, he said that what happened in the past, which put this entire industry in the province at risk, must serve as a lesson to move forward, so that thousands of men and women have the resources to feed themselves, pay for basic services and support their families.
He recalled that, on August 29 of last year, during his official visit to Brazil, the step was taken for the company to resume its production, remain in Panama and open a new process that would reduce tensions and protect thousands of jobs and a fundamental economic activity for the country.
I take this opportunity to announce that next month the My First Rural Employment program will begin and the young people of this province will be the biggest beneficiaries, so that they have the experience of working in a paid manner.
For his part, López Flores thanked President Mulino and his team for having managed to get the banana industry and the Chiquita company to return to the province. He explained that production is sustainable and aggressive to produce the greatest amount of bananas in the 20 plantation farms that currently exist.
"My administrative and operational team is here so that next year we produce at least 15 million boxes... and from there we go up. We are going to continue growing; the more hectares we have, the more employment we will generate, with young people who want to work," reported the Chiquita representative.

El anuncio se realizó durante un recorrido por la Finca 12 del presidente de la República, José Raúl Mulino, junto al CEO de Chiquita, Carlos López Flores, y los ministros Julio Moltó, de Comercio e Industrias; y Roberto Linares, de Desarrollo Agropecuario. Durante la visita se constató la actividad productiva de esta plantación de 200 hectáreas, una de las 20 zonas que se trabajan en la actualidad. “Veo con inmensa satisfacción que estemos abriendo las puertas a la exportación de nuestro banano, que es reconocido mundialmente. Esto es fruto del trabajo de miles de personas y de inversiones realizadas en este suelo fértil que produce alimentos de alta calidad”, expresó Mulino al recibir el informe que, además, detalla la existencia de 5 mil hectáreas en producción, lo que repercute, dependiendo de la fluctuación de producción, en 6 mil empleos directos de bocatoreños. Mulino resaltó el futuro positivo para la provincia al reflotar esta industria; no obstante, dijo que lo ocurrido en el pasado, que puso en riesgo toda esta industria en la provincia, debe servir como aprendizaje para salir adelante, para que miles de hombres y mujeres tengan los recursos para alimentarse, pagar los servicios básicos y sostener a sus familias. Recordó que, el 29 de agosto del año pasado, durante su visita oficial a Brasil, se dio el paso para que la empresa reanudara su producción, permaneciera en Panamá y abriera un nuevo proceso que permitiera reducir las tensiones y proteger los miles de empleos y una actividad económica fundamental para el país. Aprovecho la ocasión para anunciar que el próximo mes se dará inicio al programa Mi Primer Empleo Rural y serán los jóvenes de esta provincia los mayores beneficiados, para que tengan la experiencia de laborar de manera remunerada. Por su parte, López Flores agradeció al presidente Mulino y su equipo por haber logrado que la industria bananera y la empresa Chiquita retornaran a la provincia. Explicó que la producción es sostenible y agresiva para producir la mayor cantidad de banano en las 20 fincas de plantaciones que hay en la actualidad. “Mi equipo administrativo y operacional está aquí para que el próximo año produzcamos por lo menos 15 millones de cajas… y de ahí vamos para arriba. Vamos a seguir creciendo; cuantas más hectáreas tengamos, más empleo generaremos, con gente joven que quiere trabajar”, informó el representante de Chiquita.
