Caasd continúa optimizando servicio de agua potable y saneamiento de cañadas con inversión superior a los RD 11,000 millones
Santo Domingo.- The general director of the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (Caasd), engineer Fellito Suberví, reported that the institution is executing an extensive program of works to strengthen the supply of drinking water, extend sanitation coverage and modernize the hydraulic infrastructure in Greater Santo Domingo.
During one of his tours of the works carried out by the institution throughout Greater Santo Domingo, Fellito supervised the ravines in the process of being cleaned in Santo Domingo Oeste. Before residents and community leaders in the vicinity of the Guajimía Gorge, he highlighted that for the first time, the CAASD intervenes 100% of the aqueducts that supply Greater Santo Domingo and the National District.
In this sense, he explained that the CAASD simultaneously develops sanitation projects, construction of treatment plants and new wells to confront the effects of climate change and periods of drought.
Suberví indicated that in the coming months the entity plans to complete the rehabilitation work on the Haina-Manoguayabo aqueduct, which will benefit sectors of district one of the National District and Santo Domingo Oeste, as well as the La Isabela aqueduct, which supplies communities such as Arroyo Hondo, Cuesta Hermosa and surrounding areas.
In addition, the director of the Caasdd highlighted the progress of the Tamarindo pumping project, in Santo Domingo Este, which will allow adding 22 million gallons per day to the production of water that is distributed in Santo Domingo Norte.
The director of the CAASD stated that the sanitation of canals constitutes one of the main axes of the current management.
He recalled that the institution intervenes 45 kilometers of ravines and recently tendered another 17 kilometers, with the objective of reaching around 63 kilometers before the end of the current government period.
“We have already delivered 19 kilometers of those first 45 and the goal is to complete the 63 kilometers before the current government administration concludes,” said the official.
The engineer Suberví explained that these works represent an investment of more than RD 11,000 million and are included in the channeling of wastewater, installation of drinking water networks, improvement of housing, construction of access roads and recovery of public spaces.
“These interventions contribute to reducing flooding, improving sanitary conditions, reducing environmental pollution and raising the quality of life of the families residing in the benefited communities,” highlighted Fellito Suberví.
Sanitary treatment and drainage plants
The official reported that CAAS has delivered two wastewater treatment plants and is developing new projects in Hato Nuevo, Lotes y Servicios, and Los Alcarrizos.
