Ministerio de Salud destaca logros alcanzados durante la presidencia pro tempore del Comisca
Santo Domingo.-This Thursday, the Ministry of Health of the Dominican Republic concluded a successful management of the pro tempore presidency of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic (Comisca), by inaugurating the LXIII Ordinary Meeting of that regional body, in which the ministers and high health authorities of the member countries of the Health System The Central American Integration (SICA) evaluated the main progress achieved during the last six months and defined new actions to strengthen health cooperation.
Under the leadership of the Minister of Health, Dr. Víctor Atallah, who held the pro tempore presidency of Comisca, and with the articulated work of the technical team of the Ministry of Health, the Dominican Republic promoted results-oriented management, strengthening regional health governance, technical cooperation and the development of strategic policies to transform the health systems of Central America and the Dominican Republic.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Atallah; the executive secretary of Comisca, José Renánde León, and the official delegations of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.
During his speech, the minister highlighted that current health challenges require coordinated responses, based on scientific evidence and increasingly solid regional integration.
“This meeting represents an opportunity to strengthen regional integration and move towards more resilient, equitable health systems prepared to respond to the challenges of the present and the future,” he said.
Dr. Atallah highlighted that, during the pro tempore presidency, the Ministry of Health of the Dominican Republic led intense coordination work together with the Member States, the Executive Secretariat of Comisca, technical commissions and international cooperation organizations, achieving important advances in health governance, digital transformation, research, development of human talent and strengthening regional capacity to face health emergencies and risks.
"Today we present results that demonstrate that regional cooperation produces real changes when there is a shared vision, leadership and technical commitment. Each achievement achieved strengthens the capacity of our countries to respond more effectively to the health needs of their populations," he stated.
Among the main contributions promoted by the Dominican Republic during its suggestion, the positioning of the One Health approach as a priority axis of the regional agenda stands out, promoting a comprehensive vision that articulates human, animal and environmental health to more effectively face present and future health challenges.
During the day, the ministers learned about the progress of the Health Plan for Central America and the Dominican Republic (PSCARD 2026-2030) and analyzed initiatives aimed at strengthening health governance, digital transformation, health research, human talent development and the regional response to communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Likewise, they learned about and approved various technical instruments aimed at strengthening the nation and the transplantation of organs, tissues and cells; advancing the Regional Kidney Health Strategy; promoting physical activity and continuing to promote public policies that improve the health of the region's population.
The LXIII Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America and the Dominican Republic (Comisca) will continue this Friday and will conclude with the transfer of the pro-temporary presidency of Belize.
