Riyadh, July 9 (SANA)Saudi Arabia on Thursday welcomed the United States’ announcement that it has begun the process of removingSyriafrom its State Sponsors of Terrorism list, on which it was designated in 1979.

In a statement posted on X, the Saudi Foreign Ministry reaffirmed theKingdom’s supportfor all positive steps taken by the Syrian government to strengthen security and stability, build state institutions, and fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people for a more stable and prosperous future.

On Wednesday, President Ahmad al-Sharaa received a letter from US President Donald Trump confirming that he had notified Congress of his decision to begin the process of removing Syria from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list.

Trump’s notification to Congress on will be followed by a 45-day review period before the delisting takes effect.
