President Herminie Meets Egyptian Ambassador to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

President Patrick Herminie met with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Seychelles, His Excellency Hatem Yousri Hosni, at State House this morning to discuss national matters and further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Seychelles and Egypt.

During the meeting, President Herminie raised the case of two Seychellois nationals currently serving sentences in Egypt. He sought the Ambassador’s support in facilitating the possibility of their transfer to Seychelles to serve the remainder of their sentences closer to their families, in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks.

Ambassador Hosni acknowledged the President’s request and noted that any such arrangement would need to follow Egypt’s legal and judicial procedures. While recognising that the process is complex, he reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to its strong relationship with Seychelles and assured the President that he would engage with the relevant authorities to explore the matter further.

The meeting also focused on cooperation in sports ahead of the upcoming Indian Ocean Island Games. Both sides discussed opportunities for Egypt to support Seychelles’ preparations through the exchange of coaches in football, weightlifting and volleyball, helping to strengthen the country’s national teams ahead of the competition.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Seychelles and Egypt. President Herminie and Ambassador Hosni welcomed the milestone and reaffirmed their shared commitment to continuing close dialogue and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual benefit.
