President Meets World Bank Division Director.

President of the Republic,Dr Patrick Herminie, met with the World Bank's Division Director forComoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Mozambique,Mr Fily Sissoko, during a courtesy call at State House this morning.

The President welcomed Mr Sissoko and highlighted the World Bank's continued support for the Government of Seychelles, the Digital and AI Strategy, the Growth and Jobs Report, the Country Climate and Development Report and the poverty assessment with NBS

During the meeting, President Herminie noted that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East has had a significant impact on Seychelles' economy, particularly the tourism sector. He explained that visitor arrivals have declined by approximately 40 per cent, despite the country recording strong tourism performance during the first two months of the year.

Mr Sissoko congratulated President Herminie on his election and reflected on his first year in the role as Division Director. He commended Seychelles for its impressive progress.

The discussions also focused on opportunities to drive transformative innovation and diversify the Seychellois economy. Both sides acknowledged that strengthening economic diversification would enhance the country's resilience and support long-term sustainable development.

Mr Sissoko also shared insights from his previous experience working in Asia, noting that he had been particularly impressed by Singapore's economic development model and its approach to sustainable growth and innovation. The President and the World Bank reaffirmed their commitment to working together on significant transformational initiatives aimed at supporting Seychelles' long-term vision for sustainable and inclusive development. Seychelles remains committed to its partnership with the World Bank and to advancing its reform agenda.Our priority is to move beyond analysis towards implementation, delivery and measurable results for our people.

Also in attendance wereMr Boubacar Sid Barry, Resident Representative;Mr Adolf Nouricce, Country Economist; and the Principal Secretar Mr Patrick Payet from the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment.
