Artisanat béninois : La CMA-Bénin engage une réforme ambitieuse en session extraordinaire
The Chamber of Craft Trades of Benin (CMA-Benin) held, this Wednesday July 8, 2026 in the VIP room of the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Employment Promotion, an extraordinary session of its Consular Assembly. Under the chairmanship of the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Employment Promotion, in charge of Professional Training, Mrs. Awaou BACO, the work focused on strategic files: revision of the fundamental texts, updating of the electoral register with a view to the renewal of the consular assembly, and examination of the revised Annual Work Plan (PTA) 2026.
A roadmap for institutional consolidation
In his welcome speech, the president of CMA-Benin, Mr. Soufiyanou IMOROU, underlined the importance of the decisions to be taken. “We are now called upon to take a new step in the consolidation of our institution,” he declared, referring to the challenges of governance and internal functioning. He reminded the elected consular officials of their “noble mission” in the service of artisans and the Republic, emphasizing the determining nature of collective choices for the future of the consular chamber.
In her opening speech to the said session, Mrs. Awaou BACO praised the “remarkable commitment” of consular officials, representatives of nearly 1.8 million artisans. She recalled the government vision, carried by President Romuald WADAGNI: making crafts a “powerful engine of growth” and a lever of territorial attractiveness. “Without modern, structured and competitive craftsmanship, our ambitions would remain in vain,” she insisted.
The Minister detailed the national strategy structured around four pillars: the Chamber of Craft Trades for organization and representation, the Craft Development Fund for financing, the SME Development Agency for competitiveness, and the National Employment Agency for integration. “This synergy is our greatest strength,” she said, calling on elected officials to “keep the institution alive and consolidate the confidence of artisans.”
Structuring decisions for the future
At the heart of the debates, the revision of the fundamental texts, statutes, internal regulations and the organization of the Certificate of Qualification for Trades occupied a central place. The updating of the electoral register as a prelude to the election of the second term was also examined. “Each of your decisions will shape the face of Beninese crafts,” concluded the minister, before declaring the work open. A session marked by responsibility and collective ambition, for a key sector of the national economy.

Une feuille de route pour la consolidation institutionnelle Dans son allocution de bienvenue, le président de la CMA-Bénin,Monsieur Soufiyanou IMOROU, a souligné l’importance des décisions à prendre. « Nous sommes désormais appelés à franchir une nouvelle étape dans la consolidation de notre institution », a-t-il déclaré, évoquant les enjeux de gouvernance et de fonctionnement interne. Il a rappelé aux élus consulaires leur « mission noble » au service des artisans et de la République, insistant sur le caractère déterminant des choix collectifs pour l’avenir de la chambre consulaire. Dans son discours d'ouverture de ladite session, Madame Awaou BACO a salué « l’engagement remarquable » des élus consulaires, représentants de près de 1,8 million d’artisans. Elle a rappelé la vision gouvernementale, portée par le Président Romuald WADAGNI : faire de l’artisanat un « puissant moteur de croissance » et un levier d’attractivité territoriale. « Sans un artisanat moderne, structuré et compétitif, nos ambitions resteraient vaines », a-t-elle martelé. La Ministre a détaillé la stratégie nationale articulée autour de quatre piliers : la Chambre des métiers de l’artisanat pour l’organisation et la représentation, le Fonds de développement de l’artisanat pour le financement, l’Agence de développement des PME pour la compétitivité, et l’Agence nationale pour l’emploi pour l’insertion. « Cette synergie est notre plus grande force », a-t-elle affirmé, appelant les élus à « faire vivre l’institution et à consolider la confiance des artisans ». Des décisions structurantes pour l’avenir Au cœur des débats, la révision des textes fondamentaux, statuts, règlement intérieur et l’organisation du Certificat de qualification aux métiers ont occupé une place centrale. L’actualisation du fichier électoral en prélude à l’élection de la deuxième mandature a également été examinée. « Chacune de vos décisions façonnera le visage de l’artisanat béninois », a conclu la ministre, avant de déclarer les travaux ouverts. Une session placée sous le signe de la responsabilité et de l’ambition collective, pour un secteur clé de l’économie nationale.
