ЖамиятThe New Silk Road: How Uzbekistan and Air China link cities and regions12:52 / 09.07.2026
The primary motivation for this reconciliation is to strengthen the capital’s air traffic significantly. The parties explored in detail the option to increase the number of regular flights on the Beijing – Tashkent – Beijing route from 3 to 7 times weekly. Essentially, this change transitions to a weekly flight schedule, easing restrictions for business and tourism travel.
Weekly flights between the capitals enable more frequent travel and facilitate the consistent planning of large-scale cross-border projects.
However, the partners’ ambitions go beyond just connecting the two capitals. The high volume of air traffic between Tashkent and Beijing makes expansion necessary, and the next step in negotiations is to develop Air China’s entire route network within Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan Airports representatives showcased a map of the country’s infrastructure to their Chinese colleagues. With significant modernization, Uzbekistan’s regional airports now possess great potential to accommodate international airliners of all types. While Tashkent has long been a well-known hub, the modernized regional airports are an open opportunity, drawing immediate interest from Chinese investors and airlines.
The airports of Fergana Valley drew particular interest from the Chinese delegation among all the regions represented. Air China views this rapidly growing oasis in Central Asia as a strategic location for establishing direct flights.
The Chinese side has clearly expressed its intention to examine this region in detail. Their interest is practical: the Fergana Valley offers significant potential in three key areas. It is a major industrial and textile hub, and its rich culture, crafts, and historic cities draw cultured travelers. Additionally, the high population density and ongoing academic exchanges generate steady demand for flights.
Uzbekistan Airports has confirmed its full support for Air China’s initiatives. The development of new air corridors will not only connect specific cities but also enhance the transportation link between Uzbekistan and China, transforming the regions into new drivers of international cooperation.
