In particular, a meeting was held with Angélica Jácome, Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization Liaison Office with the United Nations (FAO), and with expert Li Feng.
FAO representatives praised the water resources management reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan. Particular attention was paid to the progress made in advancing gender equality in this area.
Angélica Jácome noted that women account for only 30-35 percent of the global agricultural and water sectors, and that this issue remains relevant.
It was decided to pay particular attention to Uzbekistan’s Water Code and to include it in WaterLex, an international database of national water resources legislation.
The discussions also covered collaboration on water resources management research.
The delegation from Uzbekistan met with Professor Kaveh Madani, Director of the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health.
Kaveh Madani highly commended the ongoing reforms in the country aimed at securing water resources. He also confirmed his readiness to collaborate with Uzbekistan’s research and analytical institutions to support scientific studies and improve the skills of water resources experts.
