Shipping through Strait of Hormuz nearly grinds to a halt after new Iran-U.S. strikes

Washington, July 9 (SANA)Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has nearly come to a standstill as military exchanges between the United States and Iran intensified, according to vessel-tracking data released on Thursday.

Bloomberg reported that shipping has been largely confined to an Iran-designated navigation lane near the northern side of the strait, while traffic through the southern Omani route has fallen to extremely low levels as many vessels altered course due to security concerns.

The disruption comes amid renewed military tensions after the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) carried out strikes on dozens of targets in Iran in response to attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. President Donald Trump also warned that American strikes on Iran would intensify significantly if Tehran continued targeting ships transiting the strategic waterway.
