Syria presents intellectual property strategy at WIPO assemblies in Geneva

Geneva, July 9 (SANA)Syria presented its strategy for strengthening intellectual property protection and supporting innovation during the 68th Assemblies of the Member States of theWorld Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held inGeneva.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the Syrian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Rasha Karkouki.

The delegation outlinedSyria’seconomic vision, which places intellectual property at the center of efforts to promote innovation, support reconstruction and strengthen the national economy.

It highlighted progress made over the past year, including an increase in trademark and industrial property applications, the rehabilitation of the National Intellectual Property Office, the modernization of its services and the development of an integrated digital platform.

The delegation also reviewed efforts to update intellectual property legislation in line with international standards, particularly in the areas of geographical indications and industrial designs.

It emphasized the importance of expanding technical cooperation and exchanging expertise through the international intellectual property system, saying stronger protection of innovation and creators’ rights is essential to building a knowledge-based economy and improving the competitiveness of Syrian products in global markets.

The WIPO Assemblies opened on July 7 and continue through July 15.
