Syria, Qatar discuss economic, investment cooperation in Geneva

Geneva, July 8 (SANA)Syrian delegation from the Ministry of Economy and Industry, represented by Deputy Minister for Domestic Trade Rasha Karkouki and Director of Industrial and Commercial Property Protection Abdulmajeed al-Abdo, met with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Sayed, to discuss enhancingeconomic and investment cooperationbetween the two countries and expanding partnership areas to serve mutual interests .

The meeting took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Syrian delegation’s participation in the 68th Assemblies of Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, where both sides discussed available investment opportunities in a number of vital sectors and development cooperation priorities between the two countries.

Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening communication between relevant institutions in Syria and Qatar to develop economic relations, increase trade and investment exchange, and open new horizons for joint cooperation.

The WIPO Assemblies continue from July 7 to 15, discussing issues related to digital legislation and artificial intelligence, developing global systems and services, supporting small and medium enterprises, enhancing governance, and exploring ways to expand innovation-based investment.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a UN specialized agency based in Geneva and founded in 1967, has 194 member states and works to promote and protect intellectual property worldwide. Its annual Assemblies of Member States set policy, approve budgets, and review work across patents, trademarks, designs, copyright, and related rights.

Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Ahmad bin Mohammed al-Sayed, has previously participated in WIPO ministerial policy dialogues and has led Qatar’s engagement with the organization on intellectual property and innovation issues.
