Syrian embassy in Caracas honors rescue team after Venezuela earthquake mission
Caracas, July 8 (SANA)The Syrian Embassy in Caracas honored theSyrian International Rescue Teamof the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management for its humanitarian efforts during search, rescue and relief operations following the recent earthquakes inVenezuela.
The ceremony, attended by members of the Syrian community and diplomatic officials, recognized the team’s contribution to the international relief mission. Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez also awarded the Syrian Arab Republic the “Heroes of Venezuela” medal and honored team members for their humanitarian service.
Qatar’s Ambassadorto Venezuela, Salman Nabit Al Khulaifi said the joint deployment of Qatar’s International Search and Rescue Group (Lekhwiya) and the Syrian rescue team reflected growing cooperation between Qatar and Syria. He said the two teams worked together to assist communities affected by the June 24 earthquakes and received recognition from the Venezuelan government and local residents.
Wissam Zaidan, commander of the Syrian rescue team, said the mission strengthened the team’s disaster-response capabilities and demonstrated that humanitarian work transcends borders.
The 15-member Syrian team arrived in Caracas on June 29 under the directive of President Ahmad al-Sharaa and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs. It worked alongside Qatar’s International Search and Rescue Group (Lekhwiya) and 26 international teams. The deployment marked the first overseas humanitarian mission by a Syrian rescue team, reflecting Syria’s expanding role in international disaster response.
