As in previous years, state-run schools will once again be offering free optional remedial courses as part of the Summerschool programme. This initiative by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth is intended for pupils wishing to catch up on missed learning or improve their performance in a particular subject. This year, it will run from 1 to 11 September 2026 in basic education and from 31 August to 11 September 2026 in secondary education.
Introduced in 2020, Summerschool forms part of the support measures put in place by the Ministry for pupils experiencing learning difficulties or falling behind at school. Nearly 7,000 pupils registered for the 2025 edition.
Here are the details of the organisation of Summerschool 2026:
During the third-term mid-year review meeting, and depending on the pupil's needs, the class teacher may suggest that parents enrol their child in a guided Summerschool activity. Parents may also request enrolment themselves. If all parties agree, the teacher enrols the pupil in the proposed activity.
The activities offered in basic education vary according to the cycle.
The guided mathematics activities will take place from 1 to 4 September 2026. The German and French language activities will take place from 7 to 11 September 2026.
Pupils in cycle 4.2 will be able to attend refresher courses organised by the lycée in which they are enrolled for the 2026/2027 school year. They will receive a form from their class teacher indicating the course they are advised to take. The completed form should then be submitted to the secretariat of their future lycée.
Parents of pupils attending a primary class at a state-run international school should contact the school's secretariat directly.
Two types of course will be offered at lycées:
Registration must be completed directly with the secretariat of the relevant lycée, subject to availability, by 17 July 2026.
As in previous years, the refresher courses offered as part of Summerschool in both basic and secondary education will be based on thematic learning packs developed by the Ministry's Service for the Coordination of Educational and Technological Research and Innovation (SCRIPT). For secondary education, these learning packs cover German, French, English and mathematics for pupils in Years 7 to 4 of both classical secondary education and general secondary education.
The learning packs will be available from 15 July 2026 onwww.summerschool.lu, via the pupil's IAM account. They will also include model answer keys, allowing pupils to use them independently or with parental support at any time during the school holidays.
Parents and pupils who require further information can contact the helpline on 8002-9090.
