Presidente del Indotel llama a universidades a liderar transformación digital del país
Santo Domingo.–The president of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), Guido Gómez Mazara, urged the country's universities to assume a leading role in the construction of the national digital ecosystem, through greater articulation with public policies and an academic offer oriented to the technological needs of the present and the future.
During the opening of the meeting "Dominican Universities: Protagonists of the Digital Ecosystem. Towards the ITU Plenipotentiary 2026 (PP-26)", the president of the Board of Directors of Indotela affirmed that the link between academia and the technological sector constitutes an urgent challenge to accelerate the digital transformation of the country.
Likewise, he called on universities to integrate research, innovation and technology as essential components of their study plans, considering that the country's public policies are increasingly linked to digital transformation.
"Today there is practically no area of national life where technology is not essential. That is why we need universities to be protagonists of the digital ecosystem and strategic allies in this process of change," he said.
The official argued that technology cannot be conceived as an isolated element, but rather as a transversal axis for economic and social development, which is why he considered it essential to strengthen collaboration between higher education institutions and the organizations responsible for promoting innovation and connectivity.
"We need to leave analog mentalities behind to build a truly digital vision. The main challenge is not only to broaden access to technology, but to transform the way we think and train our professionals," he said.
The president of Indotel also pointed out that the institution develops scholarship, training and technological training programs aimed at preparing human talent in high-demand areas, as part of a strategy to boost national competitiveness and reduce gaps in access to knowledge.
The meeting brought together university authorities, representatives of international organizations and specialists from the telecommunications sector to learn about the main results of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and define a joint work agenda for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26), which will be held in Doha, Qatar.
