Syria and Iraq discuss bolstering border control and combating smuggling

Baghdad, July.6 (SANA)ASyrian Defense Ministrydelegation, led by Brig. Gen. Hassan Abdul Ghani, Commander of the Border Guard Forces of the Syrian Arab Army, visited the Republic of Iraq, where it held talks with Lt. Gen. Mohammed Abdul Wahab Sukkar, Commander of the Border Forces at the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.

The two sides discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, foremost among them bolstering border control measures, combating smuggling operations, and enhancing coordination between the two sides at all levels.

The talks reflected the shared commitment of Syria and Iraq to strengthening security cooperation along their common border and promoting coordination in addressing cross-border challenges.

Last Monday, Syria and Iraq agreed to form a High Joint Coordination Committee to oversee bilateral cooperation and synchronize efforts across various sectors. The agreement was reached during the visit of Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to Damascus.
