Syria joins WSIS Forum in Geneva to expand international digital cooperation

Geneva, July 6 (SANA)Syriais participating in the World Summit on theInformation Society(WSIS) Forum 2026inGeneva, seeking to strengthen international cooperation and build partnerships intelecommunicationsand information technology as the country advances itsdigital transformation.

The Syrian delegation is headed by Khaled al-Homsi, Director General of the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority.

The forum, jointly organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), brings together representatives of governments, the private sector, academia, civil society and international organizations to discuss digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure and digital inclusion.

Speaking to SANA, al-Homsi said Syria’s participation reflects the country’s renewed engagement in specialized international forums, noting growing interest among participating delegations in exploring opportunities for cooperation, exchanging expertise and establishing partnerships in the telecommunications and information technology sectors.

“The name of Syria is returning to these international forums,” al-Homsi said. “Delegations are now seeking out the Syrian delegation to discuss cooperation and exchange expertise, enabling Syria to benefit from its renewed openness to the world in advanced technological fields, including artificial intelligence. This will help secure technical support, specialized training and knowledge transfer needed to develop Syria’s telecommunications and technology sector and advance digital transformation.”

The forum runs through July 10. It is being held at the ITU headquarters on July 6 and 7 before moving to the Palexpo exhibition center for its final sessions from July 8 to 10.
