Proindustria y BID Lab impulsarán la innovación manufacturera con proyecto CARIBEquity
Santo Domingo.-The Center for Industrial Development and Competitiveness (Proindustria) and the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB Group), through IDB Lab, its innovation and venture arm focused on promoting innovative solutions for development, signed the project agreement “CARIBEquity - Manufacturing Innovation Ecosystem in the Dominican Republic”, an initiative aimed at strengthening the national innovation ecosystem through the promotion of entrepreneurship, technology transfer and the development of micro, small and manufacturing medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
The agreement will allow the execution of a project with a total investment of USD 1,381,240, made up of a contribution of USD 325,450 from IDB Lab, with resources from the CARIBEquity facility of the European Commission and the Restarted Framework Agreement (ECR), as well as a counterpart of USD 1,055,790 contributed by Proindustria. The initiative will last 30 months.
During the event, the general director of Proindustria, Rafael Cruz Rodríguez, highlighted the importance of this alliance to continue strengthening the innovative capacity of the Dominican manufacturing sector. “Thanks to this joint effort, more than 800 Dominican entrepreneurs will have access to training, incubation, mentoring and specialized support programs, contributing to the creation of innovative companies and the strengthening of our productive fabric,” he added.
Likewise, he maintained that it is “a shared vision about the future of the Dominican industry and about the role that innovation, entrepreneurship and technology must play in the productive transformation of our country.”
For her part, the representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group in the Dominican Republic, Nathalie Alvarado, highlighted the value of this cooperation to promote a more dynamic and inclusive ecosystem, which contributes to the growth of manufacturing enterprises and the economic development of the country.
"This alliance reflects a shared vision about the importance of creating more opportunities for entrepreneurs and manufacturing companies. By strengthening incubation, acceleration and innovation services, we are contributing to developing talent, increasing productivity and generating more favorable conditions for the growth of the sector," said Alvarado.
As part of the agreement, Proindustria will modernize its Proincube 2.0 program, strengthening business incubation and acceleration services through specialized training, mentoring and strategic alliances with universities, research centers and international organizations.
Likewise, the project contemplates the creation of an Innovation and Prototyping Center, equipped with cutting-edge technology for the design, development and validation of new products, offering entrepreneurs and manufacturing MSMEs access to tools that will boost innovation, productivity and competitiveness.
Among the main expected results are the incubation of 265 entrepreneurs, the training of 400 participants, the acceleration of 55 startups with high growth potential and the strengthening of an innovation network that promotes collaboration between the productive sector, academia and other strategic actors. The initiative also incorporates an inclusion approach, encouraging greater participation of women in incubation, training and acceleration programs.
Proindustria and the Inter-American Development Bank Group, through this agreement, reaffirm their mission with the strengthening of the manufacturing innovation ecosystem of the Dominican Republic, promoting the development of capabilities, the adoption of new technologies and the generation of opportunities that contribute to a more competitive, resilient industry prepared to respond to the challenges of the future.
