Christian Lambert was a man who perfectly combined authority and courage. Peacekeeper who became commissioner, head of the RAID then prefect, he had traveled through all the levels of the National Police and climbed all the steps of the service of the Republic. Born on June 5, 1946 in Corbeil-Essonnes, Christian Lambert started as a firefighter before joining, in 1967, as a peacekeeper at the Paris police headquarters. Inspector, then commissioner, he imposed himself through his composure and his instinct. A pioneer of RAID, he was, in May 1993, during the hostage-taking at the Neuilly-sur-Seine nursery school, one of the pillars of the intervention for the release of the children. He displayed the true strength that was his, the precision of gesture and the sense of responsibility. Becoming head of RAID in 2002, the following year he led the operation which led to the arrest in Corsica of Yvan Colonna, wanted for the assassination of prefect Claude Érignac. The arrest, carried out without bloodshed, bore his mark: meticulous preparation, absolute discretion, complete resolution. Corsica was then a new territory of service for him, as prefect delegated for security. Then came the management of the Republican security companies, at the heart of the urban violence of 2005.
