Vitroplants et quai fruitier : Le Gouvernement accélère la modernisation de ses filières agricoles d'exportation
The Government of President Romuald WADAGNI is continuing its strategy of transforming agricultural export sectors. To increase the competitiveness of pineapple, cashew nut, mango and other Beninese fruits on international markets, it invests in two essential links in the value chain: the production of high-performance plant material and modern packaging and export infrastructures. As part of the Project to Support the Competitiveness of Agricultural Sectors and the Diversification of Exports (PACOFIDE), an industrial unit producing 13.5 million vitroplants per year. year is being completed at the Glo-Djigbé Special Economic Zone. This infrastructure will make it possible to produce healthy, homogeneous plants with high yield potential, particularly for the pineapple and cashew sectors. The project also includes the construction of a fruit quay at the Bernardin GANTIN international airport in Cotonou. Equipped with cold rooms, refrigerated storage spaces, freezers and areas dedicated to import-export operations, this infrastructure will strengthen the conservation and shipping of fresh agricultural products, in particular pineapple and market garden products. The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Adin Yeton BLOUKOUNON GOUBALAN, carried out a supervision visit on Friday July 3, 2026 of these two projects. On this occasion, he declared himself satisfied with the progress and quality of the work. “In all the major agricultural powers, seed technology is at the heart of the transformation of the sector. No nation can succeed in its agricultural revolution without mastering its seed industry. Seeds constitute the first factor of production. By mastering seed technologies, we sustainably increase yields, improve the quality of production and strengthen our competitiveness. Under the leadership of President Romuald WADAGNI, Benin is choosing to take its seed industry in hand,” declared the Minister. Regarding the fruit quay, the Minister stressed that it will allow the packaging of up to 736 pallets of fruit intended for export, thus constituting a major advance for the logistics of agricultural exports. “It is a strategic infrastructure, a first for our country. It will help preserve the quality of our products, reduce post-harvest losses and strengthen the presence of Beninese fruits on international markets,” he indicated. In addition, 1,000 hectares located on the former site of the Glo-Djigbé airport will be developed into an elite and demonstration field. These plots will be used for the multiplication and validation of the performance of new pineapple vitroplants before their large-scale distribution to producers, in order to sustainably improve yields and quality of production.

Dotée de chambres froides, d’espaces de stockage réfrigéré, de congélateurs et de zones dédiées aux opérations d’import-export, cette infrastructure renforcera la conservation et l’expédition des produits agricoles frais, notamment l’ananas et les produits maraîchers.Le Ministre de l’Agriculture, de l’Élevage et de la Pêche, Adin Yeton BLOUKOUNON GOUBALAN, a effectué, le vendredi 3 juillet 2026, une visite de supervision de ces deux chantiers. À cette occasion, il s’est déclaré satisfait de l’état d’avancement et de la qualité des travaux. « Dans toutes les grandes puissances agricoles, la technologie semencière est au cœur de la transformation du secteur. Aucune nation ne peut réussir sa révolution agricole sans maîtriser son industrie semencière. Les semences constituent le premier facteur de production. En maîtrisant les technologies semencières, nous augmentons durablement les rendements, améliorons la qualité des productions et renforçons notre compétitivité. Sous le leadership du Président Romuald WADAGNI, le Bénin fait le choix de prendre son industrie semencière en main», a déclaré le Ministre.S’agissant du quai fruitier, le Ministre a souligné qu’il permettra de conditionner jusqu’à 736 palettes de fruits destinés à l’exportation, constituant ainsi une avancée majeure pour la logistique des exportations agricoles. « C’est une infrastructure stratégique, une première pour notre pays. Elle permettra de préserver la qualité de nos produits, de réduire les pertes post-récolte et de renforcer la présence des fruits béninois sur les marchés internationaux », a-t-il indiqué.Par ailleurs, 1 000 hectares situés sur l’ancien site de l’aéroport de Glo-Djigbé seront aménagés en champ élite et de démonstration. Ces parcelles serviront à la multiplication et à la validation des performances des nouveaux vitroplants d’ananas avant leur diffusion à grande échelle auprès des producteurs, afin d'améliorer durablement les rendements et la qualité des productions.
