Montecristi.- After 60 years of waiting, President Luis Abinaderinaugurated this Saturday the Hatillo Palma-Derramadero-Agua de Luis and Arroyo Caña highway, a work that will benefit more than 32,000 people in the Montecristi province, by improving the connection of these communities with the Duarte highway and other municipalities, in addition to strengthening agricultural production and the development of the Northwest Line.

Community members in the area stated that since 1966 they had been demanding the construction of the Hatillo Palma-Derramadero-Agua de Luis highway. For decades the work was a constant demand that went through several governments without receiving a response, until its recent inauguration, which they consider a significant change for the development and connectivity of their communities.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Eduardo Estrella, highlighted that this highway constitutes a strategic investment for the development of Montecristi and the entire Northwest Line, by creating a modern infrastructure that strengthens production, improves the quality of life of the communities and expands growth opportunities for thousands of families.

Minister Estrella highlighted that the Government continues to execute a broad road intervention plan in the province and throughout the Northwest Line, with paving and connectivity works in various communities that had historically been left pending.

He stated that the works delivered are part of a high-impact project, with significant investments, pointing out the quality of the infrastructure built, as well as the inclusion of signage and complementary works carried out by the contractors.

Likewise, he indicated that President Luis Abinader promotes a vision of comprehensive development for the region, which includes highways, streets, the Navarrete ring road and other strategic projects such as the port of Manzanillo and the construction of bridges at key points.

Finally, he assured that these initiatives respond to historical demands of the communities and represent significant advances in connectivity and development, in addition to affirming that the Government has maintained its commitment to the region despite national and international economic challenges.

In his welcoming remarks, Senator Bernardo Alemán Rodríguez highlighted that President Abinader has promoted important works in the province of Montecristi since 2020, fulfilling multiple historic promises regarding roads, schools, energy and port development.

He pointed out that these investments have transformed the province and strengthened its growth, while indicating that there are still pending road projects that he considers key to continue boosting the productivity of the area.

The mayor of Hatillo Palma, Víctor Espinal, thanked President Luis Abinader for the works carried out in the province of Montecristi and highlighted that, although there are still needs, significant progress has been recorded in recent years compared to previous administrations.

He pointed out that the community has been assisted on different fronts and that the Government has promoted the development of the area. He took advantage of the occasion to raise some local demands, especially related to irrigation systems and improvements in community infrastructure.
