Japanese researchers develop AI system to prevent motorcycle and bicycle falls
Tokyo, July 4 (SANA)Japanese researchers developed a smart electronic control system for bicycles and motorcycles capable of distinguishing between a natural turn and an impending fall to provide balancing assistance.
According to a study published by the US innovation website “Hackster.io” on Friday, the research was led by Associate Professor Hiroaki Kuwahara from the Shibaura Institute of Technology. The team developed an electronic control system that replaces mechanical steering wires with electronic sensors to precisely track vehicle movement and rider behavior.
The system utilizesartificial intelligenceto analyze real-time data, including speed and tilt angle, distinguishing between intentional turning and uncontrolled tilting before a fall. The stability support system activates only during emergencies without interfering with normal riding, aiming to enhance the safety of electric bikes for the elderly, delivery vehicles, and bike-sharing services.
