Aoun urges continued US support for Lebanon following framework agreement with Israel

Beirut, July 4 (SANA)Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the United States on Saturday to continue supportingLebanon, its institutions and its armed forces following the signing of a US-brokered framework agreement with Israel aimed at achieving “lasting peace,” the Lebanese presidency said.

In a message to US President Donald Trump marking the 250th anniversary of US independence, Aoun stressed the importance of continued US support to help strengthen stability and open a new chapter of hope and peace, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.

The US Embassy in Beirut said in a statement posted on X that Washington stands with the Lebanese people in their efforts to build a more peaceful and prosperous future.

During a phone call on June 28, Trump congratulated Aoun on the signing of the framework agreement and reaffirmed US support for Lebanon, including Washington’s commitment to help provide the necessary conditions for implementing the agreement and restoring security and stability, according to the Lebanese presidency.

Lebanon and Israel signed the framework agreement in Washington on June 27 following a fifth round of US-mediated negotiations. The document, signed by the Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors to theUnited Statesin the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, establishes a framework for future agreements aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries while safeguarding the sovereignty and security of both sides.
