Death toll from Venezuela’s twin earthquakes rises to 2,954
Caracas, July 4 (SANA)The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struckVenezuelalast month has risen to 2,954, while 16,592 people have been injured, Venezuelan authorities said on Saturday.
In a statement, Venezuela’s Ministry of Communication and Information said the death toll had reached 2,954.National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguezsaid the latest figures also showed 16,592 people injured and 16,309 displaced.
Rodríguez said medical teams have treated 22,445 people since the disaster, while nearly 30,000 emergency personnel and 3,281 international rescue workers have been deployed to support relief operations. Search-and-rescue efforts for survivors remain ongoing, he added.
The previous official toll reported 2,645 deaths.
The two earthquakes, both measuring above magnitude 7, struck Venezuela on June 24, causing the collapse of dozens of residential buildings, most of them in the coastal state of La Guaira, north of the capital, Caracas.
