Indomet advierte que persistirá el calor intenso con temperaturas de hasta 39 °C y mayor sensación térmica
Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that during the next few days intense heat will persist in much of the country, especially in the northwest, north and southwest regions, where maximum temperatures could reach between 35 ° C and 39 ° C, with a higher thermal sensation due to the high humidity content.
The organization explained that these conditions are associated with summer, a time of year characterized by greater solar insolation; the incidence of a high pressure system that favors the entry of warm winds from the east/southeast; and the presence of low to moderate concentrations of Saharan dust over the national territory.
Likewise, he indicated that to these factors is added the influence of the El Niño phenomenon, which currently has a moderate intensity and favors a pattern of scarce rains and temperatures above normal values in the Caribbean region.
Indomet noted that, according to model projections from the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States (NOAA), this pattern will persist for the next two weeks. He also recalled that July and August are, climatologically, the hottest months of the year in the Dominican Republic.
June set new temperature records
The institution noted that June 2026 was marked by very high temperatures in different locations in the country. The highest value was recorded on June 29 in Sabaneta, Santiago Rodríguez province, where the temperature reached 39.9 °C, establishing a new historical record for that meteorological station. This value exceeded the 38.5 °C recorded in 1964, a mark that remained in force for 62 years.
Maximum temperatures of 38.4 °C were also recorded in Mao, Valverde province; 38.2 °C in Jimaní, Independencia; 37.1 °C in Dajabón; 37.0 °C in Altamira, Puerto Plata, and 36.4 °C in Santiago.
New records were also set in Santo Domingo. The Santo Domingo Este station reached 36.6 °C on June 30, surpassing the previous record of 36.0 °C, established in 2019.
Likewise, the Las Américas meteorological station recorded a maximum temperature of 35.9 °C, surpassing the previous record of 35.5 °C, corresponding to the year 2020.
Given the persistence of high temperatures, elIndomet recommends that citizens stay well hydrated, wear light and light-colored clothing, apply sunscreen and avoid direct exposure to the sun between 11:00 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon.
The institution also urged to pay special attention to children, older adults and people with health conditions, because they constitute the most vulnerable groups to the effects of extreme heat.
The organization will continue to monitor the evolution of meteorological conditions and keep the population informed through its bulletins and official channels.

Ante la persistencia de las altas temperaturas, elIndomet recomienda a la ciudadanía mantenerse bien hidratada, utilizar ropa ligera y de colores claros, aplicar protector solar y evitar la exposición directa al sol entre las 11:00 de la mañana y las 4:00 de la tarde. La institución también exhortó a prestarespecial atención a los niños, adultos mayores y personas con condiciones de salud, debido a que constituyen los grupos más vulnerables ante los efectos del calor extremo. El organismo continuará vigilando la evolución de las condiciones meteorológicas y mantendrá informada a la población a través de sus boletines y canales oficiales.
