Assailant killed after grenade attack injures three security personnel in Jaramana
Damascus, July 3 (SANA)Three security personnel were injured after an assailant attacked a security checkpoint at one of the entrances to the city of Jaramana, south of Damascus, before being killed when a grenade he was attempting to throw exploded, a security source told SANA on Friday.
The source said checkpoint personnel stopped two men riding a motorcycle during a routine identity check.During the search, one of the men drew a handgun and fired several rounds into the air before throwing two hand grenades at security personnel, injuring three of them.
As the man attempted to throw a third grenade, it exploded before he could release it, killing him instantly, the source said.
After the body was transferred to a hospital and his identity was confirmed, authorities determined that the man was wanted in connection with murder cases and drug trafficking, according to the source.
The second individual has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and take the necessary legal measures, the source said.ABD
