China ready to offer new opportunities to Syria, ambassador says
Damascus, July 3 (SANA)Chinese Ambassador to SyriaShi Hongweisaid China stands ready to create new opportunities for the world, including Syria, through its development strategy, according to an article published in the Syrian state-owned daily Al-Thawra Al-Souria.
The article, titled “After 105 Years… A Shared Future for theSilk Road,” was published to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
Hongwei said China will continue promoting the building of an open global economy and delivering greater benefits to the peoples of all countries.
He said the Syrian people, after enduring hardship, would ultimately find hope on the path to peace and development, and said China stands ready to work alongside Syria to write a new chapter of friendly cooperation based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
Hongwei cited the Quranic verse, “Indeed, with hardship comes ease,” and the Chinese proverb, “After the storm, the sun shines.”
China and Syria established diplomatic relations on August 1, 1956, with China maintaining an embassy in Damascus and Syria an embassy in Beijing.
Following the fall of the disposed regime in December 2024, Syrian PresidentAhmad al-Sharaamet Chinese Ambassador Shi Hongwei in February 2025 to discuss Syrian- Chinese relations.
During a visit to Beijing in November 2025, Syrian Foreign MinisterAsaad Hassan al-Shaibanireaffirmed Syria’s adherence to the One China policy.China also reiterated its readiness to cooperate with the Syrian government and its longstanding position that the occupied Golan is a Syrian territory.
