Death toll from Venezuela’s twin earthquakes rises to 2,295

Caracas, July 2 (SANA) The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 2,295, while more than 11,000 people have been injured, Venezuelan authorities said.AFP quoted Jorge Rodríguez, president ofVenezuela‘s National Assembly, as saying in the latest official update that 2,295 people had been killed in the disaster and more than 11,000 others injured.

The two earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, triggered the collapse of entire residential complexes and prompted extensive search-and-rescue operations for survivors trapped beneath the rubble. They are among the deadliest seismic disasters inLatin America‘s history.

The previous official toll stood at 1,943 deaths, with more than 10,500 people injured, around 15,000 displaced, and 6,461 survivors rescued since emergency operations began.

On June 27, Syria’sMinistry of Emergency and Disaster Managementdeployed an international search-and-rescue team to Venezuela to support relief efforts following the earthquakes, working alongside the international rescue team of Qatar’s Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya).F.J./ABD
