Infotep y Procigar certifican a los primeros egresados de la Escuela de Tabaqueros de Tamboril
Tamboril, Santiago.-The National Institute of Professional Technical Training (Infotep) and the Association of Cigar Producers of the Dominican Republic (Procigar) certified the first 127 participants who completed the programs of the Tamboril Tobacco School, an initiative created to strengthen human talent and respond to the growing demand for qualified personnel in the Dominican tobacco industry.
As a result of this training process, 72 participants have already been hired by companies in the sector, while another group equivalent to 20% of the graduates will soon begin their job placement, reflecting the close link between technical-professional training and the needs of one of the country's main export industries.
The ceremony was headed by the deputy general director of Infotep, Luis Manuel Rodríguez, representing the general director, Maira Morla Pineda, together with the president of Procigar, Ciro Cascella; the promoter of the initiative and former president of the union, Lito Gómez; the director of the Tobacco Institute of the Dominican Republic (Intabaco), Iván Hernández, as well as authorities, businessmen and representatives of the sector.
Infotep highlights the impact of training
The deputy general director of Infotep stated that this first promotion represents a decisive step to guarantee the availability of specialized human capital demanded by the national tobacco industry.
“The 78 women and 49 men who today receive their certificates acquired skills in making artisanal cigars, pest management in tobacco cultivation, customer service, human training and conflict management, skills that are allowing them to quickly enter the labor market.”
Likewise, he highlighted that companies such as La Aurora, La Flor Dominicana, Davidoff and Tabacalera El Artistaya have incorporated participants trained in the Tobacco Makers School, strengthening the competitiveness of a strategic sector for the Dominican economy.
Procigar bets on generational change
While the president of Procigar, Ciro Cascella, described the certification as a transcendental event for the future of the industry, considering that it guarantees the generational change of a trade that has turned the country into a world benchmark for premium cigars.
"Each certificate we deliver is not a simple piece of paper; it is the living testimony of men and women who have decided to embrace a noble profession, an art that is national pride and that places us, indisputably, at the top of the world of premium cigars."
Cascella maintained that the alliance between Procigar and Infotep ensures the continuity of an economic activity that generates thousands of jobs and constitutes the livelihood of numerous families linked to tobacco production.
A tradition that projects the prestige of Dominican tobacco
In turn, Lito Gómez, promoter of this initiative, urged the participants to practice the trade with commitment and a sense of belonging, remembering that each cigar made represents the international prestige of Dominican tobacco.
"When you make a cigar, do it thinking about the man or woman who, anywhere in the world, will enjoy it. Tamboril is the birthplace of the best cigar makers in the country and each cigar represents the prestige of the Dominican Republic in international markets," he pointed out.

Procigar apuesta al relevo generacional Mientras que el presidente de Procigar,Ciro Cascella, calificó la certificación como un acontecimiento trascendental para el futuro de la industria, al considerar que garantiza el relevo generacional de un oficio que ha convertido al país en referente mundial de los cigarros premium. “Cada certificado que entregamos no es un simple papel; es el testimonio vivo de hombres y mujeres que han decidido abrazar un oficio noble, un arte que es orgullo nacional y que nos coloca, indiscutiblemente, en la cúspide del mundo del cigarro premium”. Cascella sostuvo que la alianza entre Procigar y el Infotep asegura la continuidad de una actividad económica quegenera miles de empleosy constituye el sustento denumerosas familiasvinculadas a la producción tabacalera. Tamboril es la cuna de los mejores tabaqueros del país y cada cigarro representa el prestigio de la República Dominicana en los mercados internacionales”,puntualizó.
