La República Dominicana alcanza récord histórico con la llegada de 6.6 millones de visitantes en el primer semestre de 2026
Santo Domingo.- Dominican tourism achieved its highest semi-annual growth with the arrival of 6,616,671 visitors in the January-June period, which represents a growth of 7.7% compared to the same period in 2025 and 11% compared to 2024, revealed Minister David Collado.
In his traditional press conference, in which the behavior of tourism and its impact on the economy is announced, Collado also reported that in June alone the country received 975,012 visitors, which represents a growth of 6% compared to the same month in 2025 and 5.5% compared to 2024.
The official said that in the first six months of this year the country received 4,963,542 tourists by air, and 1,653,129 cruise passengers by sea.
"These two arrivals give us the large number of: 6,616,671 visitors during these first six months and lead us to project that we will reach 12 million at the end of the year. A true record," said Collado, when presenting the statistics to the main actors in the country's tourism sector, during an event that took place at the Embajador hotel in the capital.
Collado reported that in June alone the country received 816,517 tourists by air, for an increase of 6% compared to the same month in 2025, 7.6% compared to 2024, 15.4 compared to 2023 and 39.1% compared to 2019.
Also in June, the country received 158,495 cruise passengers by sea, which represents a growth of 6.3% compared to last year.
The main tourist issuing countries in June were the United States with 53%; Colombia, with 8%; Canada, 7%; Puerto Rico and Argentina, with 5%; the United Kingdom and Chile, with 3%, and Mexico, with 2%.
The largest number of flights arrived from the United States with 53%, Panama with 7%, Colombia and Puerto Rico with 6%, and Canada with 5%.
In June, the terminals that received the most flights were Punta Cana with 53%, Las Américas 28%, Cibao 12%, Puerto Plata and Higüero 3%, La Romana and Samaná 1%.
The official also indicated that in the January-June period, hotel occupancy was 71%, while the level of tourist satisfaction was 4.4, in a 5-point measurement.
Due to this level of satisfaction, 92% of visitors say they would return and 60% would recommend the destination.
Minister Collado insisted that the Dominican tourism industry is at its best, which is why he projects, at the end of the year, the arrival of more than 12 million visitors.
