The Ukraine Recovery Conference, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, took place in Gdańsk last week. Iceland’s delegation was led by Martin Eyjólfsson, Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and consisted of representatives from the Embassy of Iceland in Warsaw and the Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (GRÓ GEST).
The Ukraine Recovery Conferences have been held annually since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022. It is a major international event bringing together representatives of governments, international organizations, businesses and other key stakeholders vital for the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine.
The Government of Iceland continues to prioritize energy support to Ukraine and announced additional support to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund at the conference to deliver timely support for next winter, an urgent priority for Ukraine to ensure a stable supply of electricity and heating despite continuous Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. Iceland also announced that it will be joining the Civil Protection Shelter Coalition and will be contributing to the construction of shelters in education facilities, ensuring safe and uninterrupted education for Ukrainian children.
Dr. Irma Erlingsdóttir, Director of the Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (GRÓ GEST), signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the High School of Public Governance of Ukraine establishing a framework of cooperation in the field of gender equality including leadership training and professional education.
The abovementioned contributions and support to Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction are rooted in the long-term policy on Iceland’s support to Ukraine and Iceland’s policy for international development cooperation.
The next Ukraine Recovery Conference will be hosted by Estonia and Ukraine in Tallinn in 2027.
