Presidente Abinader destaca que la confianza y la estabilidad hacen de República Dominicana un imán para la inversión
Santo Domingo.–President Luis Abinader led this Wednesday the opening of the Americas Investment Forum (AIF) 2026, organized by ProDominicana, where he stressed that the country offers foreign investors confidence, macroeconomic stability, solid institutions, clear rules, transparency and compliance with commitments.
When delivering his speech, the head of state focused on trust as a fundamental pillar for economic development and capital attraction in a global context of uncertainty.
"Trust is the most valuable currency of the modern economy," the president said before more than 2,000 representatives from 52 countries, including China, South Korea, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. "It turns an idea into an investment and an opportunity into a company. It allows capital to cross borders to create jobs, drive innovation and bet on the future," he added.
Record numbers and regional projection
The head of state highlighted that the country reached foreign direct investment (FDI) of more than $5 billion in 2025, received more than 11 million annual visitors and its free zones generate more than 200,000 direct jobs, representing more than 60% of exports.
"More important than the numbers is what they represent: jobs, opportunities, innovation and trust in our people," he said.
Speech transcended national borders
President Abinader called on the Americas to leave behind the narrative of potential and move on to that of results: "For a long time there was talk of the Americas as a region with potential, but the time has come for the world to start talking about the Americas as a region of results."
In that sense, he emphasized that the new global context, marked by nearshoring and the search for resilient supply chains, represents a historic opportunity for the continent. "Companies are no longer just looking for where to produce cheaper; they are looking for where to produce safer, more efficient and closer to their markets," he stated.
A call to build the future together
President Abinader concluded his speech with a message of hemispheric cooperation: "The future does not belong to those who wait or observe it from a distance. The future belongs to those who dare to build it. And we are ready to build it together."
The president insisted that no country can fully take advantage of the opportunities acting alone, and reiterated that the Dominican Republic will continue to be "a reliable partner, a strategic platform and an open door for those who believe in the potential of our region."
For his part, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, highlighted the advances in the investment climate in the Dominican Republic during the inauguration of the international forum.
Sanz Lovatón highlighted the incredible change in the business ecosystem in the last six years, positioning the country as a regional leader in legal security, economic stability and attraction of foreign investment.
The official stated that the country is experiencing an epochal rupture driven by artificial intelligence and geopolitical changes, which favor a new reconfiguration of supply chains.
“Blessed by its geographical location and a modern legal framework,” the Dominican Republic is consolidating itself as an export, financial, innovation and advanced manufacturing power, thanks to the vision of President Luis Abinader and regional alliances such as Development in Democracy with Costa Rica and Panama.
Biviana Riveiro Disla, executive director of ProDominicana, explained that the forum seeks to connect the region with the capital markets of the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
"Hosting this event confirms that the eyes of the world are on the Dominican Republic," he stated. Furthermore, he pointed out that the current challenge is to move from quantity to quality, prioritizing projects with technology transfer, productive chaining and sustainability.
A forum for integration and investment quality
AIF 2026, affiliated with the WAIPA World Investment Conference, runs until July 3 at the JW Marriott hotel in Santo Domingo.
Its agenda is structured around four pillars: high-level dialogue on public policies; promotion of projects in sustainable tourism, energy, infrastructure, logistics, manufacturing, agribusiness, technology and artificial intelligence; business platforms and coordination between investment promotion agencies.
The academic agenda will feature the participation of Dr. Ricardo Hausmann, director of the Growth Lab at Harvard University, and the Recognition of Investment in the Dominican Republic 2026 will be awarded to foreign companies with a positive impact on national development.
