Palestinian presidency urges action against Israeli settlements
Occupied Jerusalem, July 1 (SANA)The Palestinian presidency on Wednesday called on the international community to take immediate action to halt Israeli settlement activities in the occupied West Bank, warning that new settlement plans threaten efforts to achieve peace and stability.
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the presidency said settlement groups, with the backing of the Israeli government, are seeking to establish 100 settlement outposts in theWest Bankin what it described as an effort to undermine the Oslo Accords.
The presidency said the plans represent a serious escalation of Israel’s settlement and annexation policies and constitute a violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
It accused the Israeli government of continuing to impose fait accompli in the occupied Palestinian territory, saying such policies undermine the two-state solution and international efforts to end the occupation.
The presidency reiterated that all Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, are illegal under international law and violateU.N. Security Council Resolution 2334, adding that they do not confer sovereignty or legal rights over Palestinian land.
It called on the international community, particularly the United States administration, to take concrete measures to compel Israel to halt all settlement activities and comply with international law.
Last month, the Palestinian government condemned Israel’s approval of 576 new settlement housing units in the occupied West Bank, including plans to build a religious school for settlers in the center of Hebron.F.J./M.Z.
