Paraguay culmina una Presidencia Pro Témpore marcada por avances en integración y transfiere la conducción del MERCOSUR al Uruguay
The session brought together heads of State, foreign ministers, representatives of invited countries, business delegations and authorities of the Associated States, who evaluated the main results achieved during the Paraguayan administration at the head of MERCOSUR and defined the priorities that will guide the regional integration agenda during the next semester.
As one of the central moments of the day, the Heads of State completed the formal transfer of the Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, which will assume leadership of the bloc for the next six months. In this context, the President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, addressed a message upon assuming the coordination of the regional integration process.
During the opening of the Summit, President Santiago Peñadio began the session in his capacity as Pro Tempore President of MERCOSUR, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, presented the report corresponding to the Paraguayan management at the head of the Common Market Council.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to regional integration
In his speech, President Santiago Peñareaaffirmed his conviction that regional integration is the way to strengthen the development of the countries of the bloc. «I believe in MERCOSUR. "I believe in integration," said the president, ratifying his commitment to an integrative process based on cooperation between the States Parties.
The Head of State maintained that the strengthening of MERCOSUR must translate into greater justice, solidarity and concrete results for citizens, through an integration capable of reducing asymmetries, expanding development opportunities and facilitating trade, connectivity and mobility in the region. In that sense, he stated that the objective is to consolidate "a MERCOSUR that citizens can feel", whose benefits directly impact people's quality of life.
Results of the Pro Tempore Presidency of Paraguay
In the balance presented to the Common Market Council, Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano highlighted the main results achieved during the Pro Tempore Presidency of Paraguay, among which the following stand out:
Subsequently, the leaders and representatives of the delegations made their interventions in the following order: Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Trinidad and Tobago, Uzbekistan, Peru and Colombia, while India participated in the session without making an intervention.
Management with more than 360 work meetings
The Pro Tempore Presidency of Paraguay concludes after more than 360 work meetings, aimed at promoting an agenda focused on trade facilitation, infrastructure development, strengthening integrated customs and migration controls, modernization of border crossings, the digital agenda and external relations.
As part of the official program, the Heads of State adopted the Joint Communiqués and the Special Declarations, after which the transfer of the Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay was formalized.
Upon assuming leadership of the bloc, the President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, reaffirmed his country's commitment to continuing the regional integration process and presented the main guidelines that will guide the MERCOSUR agenda during the next semester.
