Ministra Gloria Reyes fortalece la cooperación social y de género durante agenda oficial en Chile
Santiago de Chile.- With the purpose of sharing experiences, strengthening alliances and promoting new inclusive social development strategies, the Minister of Women of the Dominican Republic, Gloria Reyes, developed an intense work agenda in Chile, which included her participation in regional meetings, bilateral meetings and rapprochements with part of the Dominican community residing in the country.
During her participation in the Sixth Regional Seminar on Social Development of Latin America and the Caribbean, the minister highlighted the importance of promoting public policies focused on social inclusion and digital transformation, two fundamental challenges for the development of the region.
“Equality between men and women must occupy a central place in these public policies,” stated Reyes, highlighting the actions led by the Ministry of Women of the Dominican Republic to reduce social gaps and move towards a more equitable and inclusive society.
In her speech, the minister explained that the Dominican Republic has made one of the largest social investments in its recent history to strengthen its social protection system, modernizing registration and inspection mechanisms, and promoting the integration of data to improve the efficiency of programs aimed at the most vulnerable families.
“We have expanded the connection of families to social programs and we promote that those who have already achieved employment opportunities or stable income can advance to new stages of development,” he noted.
Her agenda at ECLAC headquarters included work meetings with Ana Güezmes García, director of the Gender Affairs Division, and Alberto Arenas de Mesa, director of the Social Development Division, two of the main technical authorities of the regional organization.
During the meetings, they exchanged perspectives on the progress of the Dominican Republic in terms of care systems, women's economic autonomy and inclusive social development, in addition to identifying opportunities to expand technical collaboration and the exchange of knowledge in these areas.
Meeting with part of the Dominican community in Chile
As part of her agenda, Gloria Reyes visited the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Chile, where she was received by Ambassador Juan Cohén. During the meeting he spoke with representatives of the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (Index) and members of the resident Dominican community, who shared concerns and proposals to continue strengthening ties with the country.
The commercial advisor Gisselle Rodríguez and the first secretary, community liaison, Malenskia Montero, also participated in the meeting.
Exchange of experiences with Chilean authorities
The minister also held bilateral meetings with authorities of the Government of Chile, including the Minister of Social Development and Family, María Jesús Wulf, and the Minister of Women and Gender Equality of Chile, Judith Marín Morales, with whom she addressed cooperation initiatives and exchange of good practices in matters of social protection, equality and public policies.
Reyes was accompanied by a delegation made up of Naomi Arboleda, director of International Relations and Cooperation of the Ministry of Women; Augusto de los Santos, general director of the Single System of Beneficiaries (Siuben), as well as Kenya del Orbe, Cooperation Counselor of the Dominican Embassy in Chile.
