Mescyt garantiza continuidad de becas a 886 estudiantes de la UASD tras jornada de actualización de expedientes
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt) successfully concluded the Day to Strengthen the National Scholarship System aimed at undergraduate students from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), held for three days in Santo Domingo and Santiago.
The initiative allowed the registration of 886 students summoned to update and complete their academic records. Of that total, 806 files were validated during the day, while the remaining cases will continue the corresponding review and monitoring process.
The event, carried out on instructions from the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Rafael Santos Badía, took place for two days at the UASD headquarters, in Santo Domingo, and culminated at the Santiago campus, where hundreds of students came to regularize their documentation and guarantee the continuity of the financial stipend they receive through the National Scholarship Program.
The national director of Mescyt Scholarships, Abel Capellán, explained that the initiative is part of the process of modernizing and strengthening the scholarship system, and ruled out that it is a massive reduction or cancellation of benefits.
"We are continuing the journey to strengthen the National Scholarship System. Students are updating their files to guarantee their permanence in the program, always subject to compliance with the established academic criteria," he expressed.
Capellán reiterated that the State maintains its support for university students and assured that the purpose of the process is to have a more transparent, organized and efficient system.
"We urge all beneficiaries called to update their files. The State guarantees support to the students of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo so that they can complete their studies and contribute to the country from different areas of knowledge," he stated.
During the first day, 415 students participated and in the second, 285. The activity concluded in Santiago with the attendance of 186 scholarship holders from the Northern region.
Students value transparency of the process
The students agreed to highlight the organization of the day and the interest shown by the authorities to listen and follow up on each particular situation.
María Elis Trinidad, an Education student at the UASD Santiago campus, explained that she came after being summoned to update her file.
"Since we arrived, the process has been very organized. I hope that all my documents are up to date and that everything goes well, because many students depend on this scholarship to be able to continue studying," he expressed.
In the same sense, Trancely Luis, a student of Philosophy and Letters at the UASD La Vega campus, described the day as fast and efficient.
"The process was quite brief. They explained to us that they would review each case and that people with a particular situation would receive the corresponding follow-up," he indicated.
For Anier Féliz, a medical student at the Santiago campus, the initiative demonstrates the ministry's interest in accompanying the scholarship recipients.
"You can see that they are attentive to the students. This type of process allows us to move forward with greater security and continue building our professional future," he stated.
One of the most significant testimonies was that of Ismael Vargas, an Industrial Engineering student and resident of Bonao, who assured that the scholarship has been decisive for remaining at the university.
"Without that financial support it would have been very difficult for me to move to study. Today we understand that this process seeks to organize the system so that the benefit really reaches those who need it and fulfill their academic responsibilities," he said.
Vargas considered it positive that the ministry reviews each file to correct situations accumulated over years and guarantee greater equity among beneficiaries.
The event had the support of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Federation of Dominican Students (FED) and the technical teams of the Scholarship, Legal, Financial and Administrative areas of Mescyt.
With this initiative, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the National Scholarship System, promoting the transparent use of public resources and ensuring that students with academic merit continue to receive the necessary support to successfully complete their university education.

El Estado garantiza el respaldo a los estudiantes de la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo para que puedan culminar sus estudios y aportar al país desde las distintas áreas del conocimiento”, afirmó. Espero que todos mis documentos queden al día y que todo salga bien, porque muchos estudiantes dependemos de esta beca para poder continuar estudiando”,expresó. En igual sentido,Trancely Luis,estudiante de Filosofía y Letras en el recinto UASD La Vega, calificó la jornada como rápida y eficiente. “El proceso fue bastante breve. Nos explicaron que revisarían cada caso y que las personas con alguna situación particular recibirían el seguimiento correspondiente”,indicó. ParaAnier Féliz,estudiante de Medicina del recinto Santiago, la iniciativa demuestra el interés del ministerio por acompañar a los becarios. “Se nota que están pendientes de los estudiantes. Este tipo de procesos nos permite avanzar con mayor seguridad y continuar construyendo nuestro futuro profesional”, afirmó. Uno de los testimonios más significativos fue el deIsmael Vargas, estudiante de Ingeniería Industrial y residente en Bonao, quien aseguró que la beca ha sido determinante para permanecer en la universidad. “Sin ese apoyo económico habría sido muy difícil trasladarme para estudiar. Hoy entendemos que este proceso busca organizar el sistema para que el beneficio llegue realmente a quienes lo necesitan y cumplen con sus responsabilidades académicas”, sostuvo. Vargas consideró positivo queel ministerio revise cada expediente para corregir situaciones acumuladas durante añosy garantizar unamayor equidadentre los beneficiarios. La jornada contó con el respaldo de la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo(UASD), la Federación de Estudiantes Dominicanos(FED)y los equipos técnicos de las áreas deBecas, Jurídica, Financiera y Administrativa del Mescyt. Con esta iniciativa, el Ministerio de Educación Superior, Ciencia y Tecnología reafirma su compromiso de fortalecer el Sistema Nacional de Becas, promover eluso transparente de los recursos públicosy asegurar que losestudiantes con mérito académicocontinúen recibiendo el respaldo necesario para concluir exitosamente su formación universitaria.
