U.S., Iran agree to halt attacks, hold talks in Doha

Washington, June 29 (SANA)TheUnited States and Iranhave agreed to halt mutual attacks and hold talks in Doha on Tuesday as part of efforts to ease tensions following recent military exchanges, according to U.S. officials.

Axios, citing a U.S. official, reported thatWashington and Tehranhad agreed to stop attacking each other and would meet in the Qatari capital to discuss developments related to theStrait of Hormuz.

A secondU.S. officialtold Axios that both sides had agreed to refrain from further attacks for the time being, adding that commercial shipping through the strategic waterway could continue while technical discussions between the two countries proceed.

The planned talks come after U.S. PresidentDonald Trumprenewed warnings to Iran on Sunday following U.S. airstrikes targeting Iranian missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar sites. Washington said the strikes were carried out in response to what it described as Iran’s violation of the ceasefire.

Theceasefirebetween the United States and Iran has come under renewed strain amid military exchanges around the Strait of Hormuz and mutual accusations of violating the memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides on June 17.
