La reforma del transporte público avanza con 90 nuevos buses para miles de usuarios del área metropolitana
The renewal of the fleet includes 90 new units, of which 70 are electric buses—30 belonging to the Paraguayan State, donated by the Republic of China (Taiwan), and 40 incorporated through private investment by the company Ñandutí S.A.—, in addition to 20 0 km buses incorporated by Ximex S.A. The private investment exceeds USD 11 million and is part of the process of modernization of the public transportation system promoted by the Government.
The units have air conditioning, security cameras, GPS, USB ports, ramps for people with disabilities, and accessibility and comfort standards aimed at improving the travel experience of passengers. The new buses provide service on lines E1, E2 and E3, 27, 165 and 44, connecting Asunción with San Lorenzo, Luque, Fernando de la Mora, Capiatá, Itauguá, Mariano Roque Alonso, Limpio, Villa Hayes and Areguá.
A reform designed to improve the quality of life
In his speech, President Peña announced that in July the first tender will be launched under the new legal framework for public transportation, with the aim of organizing the system, generating greater transparency and continuing to encourage private investment. He added that the Government plans to incorporate close to 1,000 new buses by 2028 and move towards an increasingly modern, integrated and sustainable mobility system.
More benefits for users
For her part, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Claudia Centurión, highlighted that the transformation of public transportation is already beginning to be reflected in concrete benefits for passengers. He pointed out that the electric lines E1, E2 and E3 already exceed 400,000 validations, while the free transfer system registers more than 600,000 transfers, generating savings close to G. 1.9 billion for users, equivalent to approximately G. 200,000 monthly per passenger who uses this benefit.
He also highlighted that the incorporation of the new units did not imply an increase in the rate, which remains inG. 3,400, and mentioned the consolidation of the Búho night service, which already registers 27,000 validations, connects Asunción with San Lorenzo, Luque and Limpio and operates with a police presence on board to provide greater security to passengers.
The minister also stressed that the modernization of transportation is advancing in parallel with important road infrastructure works, including the Great Urban Trident, the tripling of route D025, the renovation of Mariscal López Avenue, the intervention on route PY01 with exclusive lanes for buses and more than 300 kilometers of urban streets of the Central Plan.
Cooperation that promotes sustainable mobility
In turn, the ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), José Chih-Cheng Han, highlighted that the 30 electric buses donated by his country have already successfully completed their experimental operation stage and are fully incorporated into the service along with all their charging infrastructure and intelligent systems.
Likewise, he expressed that this project opens a new stage of cooperation between Paraguay and Taiwan in terms of electromobility and expressed his expectation that, in the future, Paraguay can develop a national electric bus industry that generates employment and also allows it to supply other markets in the region.
Towards more modern public transport
The incorporation of these new units is part of the implementation of the reform of the public transportation system, aimed at progressively renewing the fleet, strengthening the participation of the private sector, raising service quality standards and placing the user at the center of public mobility policies.
With these actions, the Government of Paraguay reaffirms its commitment to building a more modern, efficient, accessible and sustainable transportation system, which contributes to improving urban mobility and the quality of life of thousands of citizens.
