Russia and Ukraine exchange overnight strikes as casualties mount
Moscow/Kyiv, June 28 (SANA)Russia andUkraineexchanged overnight drone and missile attacks that killed and injured civilians and damaged energy infrastructure, with both sides reporting strikes on strategic targets.
Russian officials said a Ukrainian drone attack on the southern Krasnodar region killed one person, injured another and sparked a fire at the Slavyansk-on-Kuban oil refinery. The attack also damaged electricity and gas infrastructure as well as several residential buildings.
Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Telegram that the region came under a “major” drone attack, adding that falling debris damaged homes and critical infrastructure.
Russia’s Defense Ministrysaid air defense systems intercepted 213 Ukrainian drones across more than 12 regions, including Moscow, but provided no further details on casualties or damage.
The Slavyansk-on-Kuban refinery, one of the largest privately owned refineries in southern Russia with a processing capacity of about 100,000 barrels per day, is located near the Russian-controlled Crimean Peninsula and has previously been targeted in similar attacks.
Ukrainian PresidentVolodymyr Zelenskysaid Ukraine had targeted two oil refineries inside Russia overnight, saying the strikes were intended to weaken Russia’s ability to continue the war.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities said at least two people were injured in a Russian strike on Kyiv. Ukraine’s military said the capital came under a ballistic missile attack, prompting the activation of air defense systems as explosions were heard across the city.
Russiaand Ukraine have exchanged regular drone and missile attacks since the conflict began in 2022, with energy facilities and other critical infrastructure frequently targeted by both sides. On Saturday, Ukrainian authorities said Russian strikes killed two people and injured more than 20 others, while Russian officials said Ukrainian attacks killed one person and wounded 10.
