Today we are correcting another historical injustice, and from now on here, in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the bust of the great Ukrainian and patron of the Lavra, Ivan Mazepa, will absolutely rightfully stand here. For centuries, Russia tarnished his name, wanted Ukrainians to look at their history through other people's eyes, convincing our people that Mazepa was a traitor. This lie lost. Forever. And today we honor our outstanding statesman and military figure, philanthropist, head of the Cossack state, Ivan Mazepa. And it is important that we do it right here, in the Lavra, which really flourished under his tutelage - with churches, bell towers and its unique Ukrainian baroque face. And certainly, the scale of this figure deserves a full-fledged monument in the capital of our country. I believe that the perfect place for it exists - it has existed since December 2013 on Shevchenko Boulevard. And I am sure: where Lenin fell, Mazepa will stand firm. Сьогодні ми виправляємо ще одну історичну несправедливість, і відтепер тут, у Києво-Печерській лаврі, абсолютно по праву стоятиме погруддя великого українця і покровителя Лаври Івана Мазепи. Століттями Росія бруднила його ім’я, прагнула, щоб українці дивилися на свою історію чужими очима, переконуючи наш народ, що Мазепа – зрадник. Ця брехня програла. Назавжди. І сьогодні ми вшановуємо свого видатного державного і військового діяча, мецената, главу козацької держави Івана Мазепу. І важливо, що ми робимо це саме тут, в Лаврі, яка за його опіки дійсно розквітла – храмами, дзвіницями і своїм унікальним українським бароковим обличчям. І безумовно, масштаб цієї постаті заслуговує на повноцінний пам’ятник в столиці нашої держави. Вважаю, що ідеальне місце для нього існує – існує з грудня 2013-го на бульварі Шевченка. І я впевнений: там, де Ленін впав, міцно стоятиме Мазепа. З виступу з нагоди Дня Конституції України. (3/5)
