Mirex envía misión especial a Venezuela para asistir y proteger a dominicanos afectados por los terremotos
Santo Domingo.-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) reported that, on instructions from the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, a special mission of the institution left for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to guarantee the protection and assistance of Dominicans in that nation, as provided for in the first axis of Dominican foreign policy.
At the time of saying goodbye to the delegation, the Vice Minister of Consular and Immigration Affairs of Mirex, Opinio Díaz Vargas, explained that the mission is headed by the director of Protection of Nationals Abroad of the institution, Miguel Reyes Taveras, and made up of technical personnel who will be providing the necessary assistance to Dominicans who require support, after the earthquakes that occurred last Wednesday, June 24 in said South American country.
The official noted that the commission will work in coordination with local authorities to strengthen the identification efforts of Dominican citizens, facilitate communication with their families and, if necessary, coordinate their safe return to the Dominican Republic.
The vice minister recalled that the protection of Dominicans abroad, regardless of where they are, constitutes the first pillar of Dominican foreign policy coordinated by Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, which is why the Government maintains all the necessary mechanisms activated to provide timely assistance to fellow nationals.
The delegation departed from the San Isidroy Air Base, upon its departure, it was accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre; the Vice Minister Opinio Díaz Vargas; the director of Consular Affairs, Candido Omar Mercedes, and ambassador Jatzel Román, advisor to the chancellor.
Quisqueya Solidarity Operation 2026
This deployment is part of the actions of the Dominican Government within the framework of Operation Quisqueya Solidaria 2026, an initiative through which the country has coordinated a comprehensive humanitarian assistance response to Venezuela.
As part of this operation, the Dominican Republic has already sent a specialized Urban Search and Rescue in Collapsed Structures (USAR) team, becoming the first international humanitarian aid mission to reach Venezuelan territory after the emergency.
Likewise, the Government facilitated the return to the country of 11 Dominican baseball players who participated in sports exchanges with the Venezuelan professional league and the transfer of another 15 is being managed. At the same time, a coordination channel was established with the Dominican Olympic Committee to identify and provide assistance to any other athlete who may require support and permanent communication is maintained with a group of Dominican doctors who carry out specialization programs in that country.

Como parte de este operativo, la República Dominicana ya envió unequipo especializadode Búsqueda y Rescate Urbano en Estructuras Colapsadas (USAR, por sus siglas en inglés), convirtiéndose en laprimera misión internacionalde ayuda humanitaria en llegar al territorio venezolano tras la emergencia. De igual manera, el Gobierno facilitó el retorno al país de11 beisbolistas dominicanosque participaban en intercambios deportivos con la liga profesional venezolana y se gestiona el traslado de otros 15. Al tiempo que se estableció un canal de coordinación con elComité Olímpico Dominicanopara identificar y brindar asistencia a cualquier otro deportista que pudiera requerir apoyo y se mantiene comunicación permanente con ungrupo de médicos dominicanosque realizan programas de especialización en ese país.
