US lifts some Venezuela sanctions to help quake rescue efforts

Washington, June 27 (SANA)The US government has lifted a number of economic sanctions againstVenezuelafor four months to facilitate relief operations following a pair of deadlyearthquakesthat jolted the country.

“All transactions related to earthquake relief efforts in Venezuela…are authorized” until October 23, a license issued Thursday evening by theUS Treasury, according to France press.

UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that  teams from Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland and the United States have already arrived,

Washington had imposed sweeping economic sanctions on Venezuela, particularly from 2019 onward, in an effort to squeeze the leftist government of presidentNicolas Maduro, whom the United States considered illegitimate.

Two earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday, with a magnitude of 7.5 and 7.2 on the Richter scale, resulting, according to the latest data, in the death of at least 920 people, with the number of victims continuing to rise.
