France tops Group I as Iraq leaves World Cup
Washington, June 27 (SANA)Francesecured top spot in Group I at the2026 FIFA World Cupafter a 4-1 win overNorwayon Friday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, the United States, in the third and final round of the group stage.
Ousmane Dembelescored a hat-trick for France in the 7th, 20th and 32nd minutes, while Desire Doue added the fourth in the 90+4th minute. Norway’s only goal was scored by Asgard in the 21st minute.
France raised their tally to nine points from three consecutive wins, while Norway remained on six points in second place. Both teams qualified for the Round of 32.
In the other match of the same group, Iraqi national team was eliminated from theWorld Cup finalsafter suffering a 5-0 defeat to Senegal at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada.
The result lifted Senegal to three points in third place, pending calculations for qualification to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams, while Iraq exited the tournament without a point, finishing fourth and last in the group.
