Lebanon : Framework agreement includes Israeli withdrawal from two areas

Washington, June 27 (SANA)–Lebanese Embassy in Washingtonannounced that the trilateral framework agreement reached on Friday between Lebanon, theUnited States and Israelincludes anIsraeli withdrawalfrom two pilot areas in Lebanon, to take place alongside the deployment of the Lebanese Army and the disarmament of armed groups operating outside state authority.

The embassy said in a statement on Saturday quoted by Lebanon’s National News Agency that the initial measures represent a first step toward a gradual and comprehensive withdrawal from all Lebanese territory, ensuring full respect forLebanon’s sovereignty.

The embassy also described the framework agreement as “a significant milestone in diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring security, stability and prosperity to Lebanon,” saying the breakthrough was achieved through the coordinated efforts of Lebanon’s constitutional institutions and marked a sovereign path for the country based on dialogue.

It said the agreement represents an important step toward restoring Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, establishing a permanent cessation of hostilities, enabling displaced people to return to their homes, and giving the Lebanese people the opportunity to live in peace, security and prosperity.

Earlier,Lebanese President Joseph Aounsaid the framework agreement signed between Lebanon and Israel under U.S. auspices marked a first step toward restoring Lebanon’s full and undiminished sovereignty over all of its territory.
