Mahmoud Saber gave Egypt the lead in the fifth minute, before Ramin Rezaeian equalized for Iran in the 14th.

The result confirmed Egypt’s qualification for the Round of 32 as Group G runners-up behind leaders Belgium.

The match was evenly contested, with both sides sharing possession and creating chances throughout the two halves. Each team managed to find the net once, and the points were shared.

Both teams pushed for a late winner in the closing minutes, but solid defending and strong performances from the two goalkeepers prevented any change to the score as the match ended 1-1.

In the other Group G match, Belgium cruised to a 5-1 victory over New Zealand in the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada.
