Death Toll from Two Earthquakes in Venezuela Rises to 920

Caracas, June 27 (SANA)The death toll from the twoearthquakesthat struck Venezuela last Wednesday has risen to 920, according to theVenezuelangovernment.

Reuters quoted the government as saying in a statement that the death toll has reached 920, with 3,360 injured and 172 people still trapped, while more than 50,000 remain missing, noting that the two earthquakes destroyed parts of the capital, Caracas, and its surrounding areas.

A previous death toll had reported 235 fatalities from the two earthquakes.

Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela last Wednesday, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, according to theU.S. Geological Survey.Additionally, a tremor measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck the northern coast of Venezuela yesterday, Friday.

United Nations announced that Venezuela requires a massive collective effort in the wake of the two earthquakes and called for urgent international support.
