Despega desde Howard primer equipo de rescatistas hacia Venezuela
President Mulino affirms that aid will continue to come from Panamanians to the victims
Following instructions from the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, an advance party of 13 rescuers and two rescue dogs left today for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to help in the rescue efforts of survivors of the two devastating earthquakes that hit the north of the sister South American country.
This is the first trip for a team that will total 61 rescuers and four dogs, which will work for an initial period of 7 days in Venezuela, but whose mission could be extended depending on what is needed.
The team that took off this noon from the Teniente Octavio Rodríguez Garrido Air Base in Panama Pacifico is made up of three (3) units of the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc); three (3) from the National Aeronaval Service (Senan); one (1) from the Panamanian Red Cross; two (2) from the Benemérito Fire Department of the Republic of Panama (BCBRP) and two (2) from the National Border Service (Senafront), as well as two (2) from the Ministry of the Presidency and two rescue dogs (one from Sinaproc and the other from Senafront).
The Minister of Government, Dinoska Montalvo and the Vice Minister of the Presidency, Virna Luque, bid farewell to the rescuers.
They took off in an AN-255 C212 AVIOCAR aircraft from the Panama Pacifico Air Base, with a technical stopover at La Chinita International Airport, in Maracaibo and final destination at the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía – Venezuela. The units are specialists in Search and Rescue of Collapsed Structures (BREC), and also carry a thousand pounds of humanitarian assistance for the victims.
Among the equipment they carry is a search drone, two specialized cameras for searching for people trapped in rubble with thermal vision, a Starlink satellite communication system, concrete cutting, structure and penetration equipment, as well as individual search and rescue equipment.
Speaking from Chiriquí, the president wished success to the humanitarian mission, and a message of hope and solidarity to the brother Venezuelan people.
"I know that this group of Panamanian professionals made up of Sinaproc, Senafront, Senan, the Red Cross and the Panama Fire Department will be of great help," said Mulino, adding that 17 tons of aid have already been sent, and a second flight with rescuers is being prepared.
He also recalled that a collection center has been set up in Omar Park for the donation of food and basic belongings, run by the Office of the First Lady of the Republic, Maricel Cohen de Mulino.
"I want to thank everyone for the great solidarity shown, and we will send each of those donations to people who really need it today, because they are living in a truly distressing and sad situation," he stressed. "Once again the Panamanian people demonstrate that we are a small country with a huge heart."
The security establishments are ready to reinforce aid. The Benemérito Fire Department, apart from the units that are already traveling Venezuela, has made 25 more units available for any situation. Additionally, volunteer companies are activated to support the logistics required for the collection of humanitarian aid donated by Panamanians in Parque Omar.
Meanwhile, Senafront has another 15 Search and Rescue units on alert, in case they are required to travel to the disaster area.
Senan has assigned 9 other units of the Search and Rescue Department and a rescue paramedic to participate in emergency operations alongside the Panamanian team.

Despegaron en una aeronave AN-255 C212 AVIOCAR desde la Base Aérea de Panamá Pacífico, con una escala técnica en el Aeropuerto Internacional La Chinita, en Maracaibo y destino final el Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía Simón Bolívar– Venezuela. Las unidades son especialistas en Búsqueda y Rescate de Estructuras Colapsadas (BREC), y además llevan consigo mil libras de asistencia humanitaria para los damnificados. Entre los equipos que llevan hay un dron de búsqueda, dos cámaras especializadas para búsqueda de personas atrapadas en escombros con visión térmica, un sistema de comunicación satelital Starlink, equipos de corte de concreto, estructura y penetración, así como equipo individual de búsqueda y rescate. Hablando desde Chiriquí, el presidente le deseó éxitos a la misión humanitaria, y un mensaje de esperanza y solidaridad al hermano pueblo venezolano. "Sé que este grupo de profesionales panameños intergrado por el Sinaproc, el Senafront, el Senan, la Cruz Roja y los Bomberos de Panamá serán de gran ayuda", dijo Mulino, agregando que ya se enviaron 17 toneladas de ayuda, y se alista un segundo vuelo con rescatistas. También recordó que en el Parque Omar se ha habilitado un centro de acopio para donación de comida y enseres básicos, a cargo del Despacho de la Primera Dama de la República, Maricel Cohen de Mulino. "Quiero agradecer a todos por la gran solidaridad demostrada, y haremos llegar cada una de esas donaciones a personas que hoy realmente lo necesitan, pues viven una situación verdaderamente angustiante y triste", recalcó. "Una vez más el pueblo panameño demuestra que somos un pequeño país con un corazón inmenso". Los estamentos de seguridad están listos para reforzar la ayuda. El Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos, aparte de las unidades que ya están viajando Venezuela, ha puesto a disposición 25 unidades más por cualquier situación. Adicionalmente, están activadas las compañías voluntarias para apoyo en la logística requerida para el acopio de ayuda humanitaria donada por los panameños en el Parque Omar. En tanto, el Senafront tiene en alerta a otras 15 unidades de Búsqueda y Rescate, en caso de que sean requeridos para viajar a la zona de desastre. El Senan ha asignado a otras 9 unidades del Departamento de Búsqueda y Recate y un paramédico de rescate, para participar de las operaciones de emergencia junto al equipo panameño.
