Presidente Peña verifica avances del Puente de la Bioceánica, una obra estratégica para el desarrollo y la integración regional
With an investment of G. 684.615.904.566, financed by ITAIPU Binacional – Paraguayan Margin, the bridge presents one of the most significant advances in its construction. The structure will be 1,294 meters long, will have two traffic lanes, shoulders with the possibility of expansion, spaces for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as permanent monitoring technology through specialized sensors and weather stations.
A work designed to transform Paraguay
President Peña highlighted that the Bioceánica Bridge is the result of a development vision built over decades and the work of those who committed to transforming the Paraguayan Chaco.
The president recalled that the project began to take shape more than ten years ago with the creation of the Strategic Projects Directorate and the planning of the Bioceanic Corridor, an initiative designed to promote the long-term development of the country.
Likewise, he highlighted that the first section of the corridor allowed pavement to be brought to the department of Alto Paraguay for the first time.
The President also maintained that this infrastructure reflects the importance of planning works that transcend the periods of government and benefit future generations.
"Paraguay's best years are ahead," he expressed, reaffirming that the country must continue betting on projects that strengthen its regional integration and economic development.
The bridge enters its final stage of construction
For her part, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Claudia Centurión, presented the progress status of the work and explained that the project is entering one of its most important stages, with only 5.60 meters of slopes to complete the physical union between Paraguay and Brazil.
Likewise, he highlighted that the infrastructure includes, in addition to the international bridge, urban improvement works, road access and connectivity that will allow the development of Carmelo Peralta to be integrated into the Bioceanic Corridor.
Recognition to those who promoted the project
The head of state also recognized the work of those who promoted the construction of the bridge from its early stages and especially highlighted the contribution of the political advisor to the Presidency, José Alberto Alderete, for the efforts made to finalize the agreement between Paraguay and Brazil that made this strategic work a reality.
For his part, Alderete recalled the negotiations promoted by ITAIPU Binacional to reach understanding between both countries and valued the continuity of the project, which today is close to completing the physical union of both banks of the Paraguay River.
Integration, development and new opportunities
The Bioceanic Bridge constitutes a fundamental piece of the Bioceanic Corridor, intended to strengthen connectivity between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and consolidate Paraguay as a regional logistics axis.
Once enabled, it will facilitate the transportation of goods, reduce logistics times and costs, drive new investments and generate greater opportunities for production, trade, services and tourism, especially benefiting the communities of the Paraguayan Chaco and strengthening the integration between Carmelo Peralta and Porto Murtinho, Brazil.
