President al-Sharaa: Combating drugs is a national program and shared responsibility
Damascus, June 26 (SANA)President Ahmad al-Sharaa affirmed that combating drugs is a national program requiring the integrated efforts of state institutions and society, stressing that Syria has launched a comprehensive campaign to eliminate the threat inherited from the ousted regime and strengthen cooperation with regional and international partners.
In a post on X marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, President al-Sharaa said Syria inherited from the ousted regime a heavy burden of drug production and trafficking, making it a state priority to wage a comprehensive war against this scourge by dismantling its sources, disrupting smuggling routes and addressing its consequences.
The President added, Syria extends its hand to countries across the region and the world to build an effective partnership capable of confronting this cross-border threat and protecting societies and families from the dangers of narcotics.
Earlier on Friday, President al-Sharaa attended the launch of the National Campaign to Combat Drugs and Treat Addiction under the slogan “Drug-Free Syria” during an official ceremony held at the Conference Palace in Damascus.
